Country Flags

The country flags listed by each of our posts supposedly reflects the country we’ve chosen to claim as our current domicile on our personal t2w profile. For some this appears to work. For others, a mouse-over gives the country linked to that given in the member’s profile, but the illustrated flag is the Union Jack.

I’ve asked on a number of occasions across the entire t2w team up to and including Sharky if they could look at this. Not a big deal of course, just a slight irritation that it’s incorrect and most likely a minor glitch that can be very easily rectified.

What is the big deal is nobody ever responds to my polite enquiry into the problem other than to say it will be passed ‘to the appropriate team’ - and then nothing. T2w, is anyone ever going to look at it, if not, please just say so and I can then move on with the rest of the tattered remnants of my life.

I hate being bloody ignored.

Yes, it’s Saturday and yes I will get a life.

pay the tax like the rest of us B .....nice try though

I'll just take a lucky guess that the Union Jack is the default flag that shows up when either a country is not listed in the member's profile or when t2w does not have the flag thumbnail pic of the country you are in.

Seems feasible Pete. In which case you’d imagine an operation with assets in excess of £200K could stump up for the full set. I appreciate liabilities probably strip out half of that, but if they’re strapped and down to their last few tens of thousands, I’m sure us more active and supportive members could have a whip-round for the missing flags. Or maybe some of the more graphically creative (WASP where are you) could design the missing ensigns?

Sharky, just let us know – what do want us to do?

A simple temporary solution would be to change the default to some sort of international symbol not necessarily a flag. For members who don't list their country there wouldn't be a representative flag anyway.

Changed my locale to one that does show a correct flag. However, still showing Union Jack.

yeah, I just changed my location several times. The mouseover shows the correct name of the country that I changed to but the flag remains USA no matter what I do.

A possible explanation is that it auto detects the location of your ISP and generates the flag of that location.

Or it's just all ***** up!

Unlikely. Mods have in the past commented that the ISP does not reflect either the profile OR the country flag for some (short-lived) members.

That's my reason of choice too. P1ss poor really.

Since most of us are human, at least to some extent, there shouldn't be a national flag, maybe just an image of the Earth.
For those few, those precious few, that band of brothers who are totally alien and have arrived at t2w from their home planets, an image of a galaxy, far far away would be more appropriate.

Yeah, but they'd still end up with a fuggin Union Jack though.....

Its no good complaining, offer to sort it out, or offer to pay to have it sorted out !

better still start a site and go head to head with t2w in competition and see if you can do it any better

Already done so above.

Not my line. But it would be nice to think someone was in charge some of the time.

Either Sharky is still running his business and like most business owners they at the very minimum pop their head in at least once a day or they have staff who are competent to handle these small details on a daily basis for them so that they don't need to. Clearly neither is currently the case.

It’s the complete irrelevance of the issue at hand that makes it so overwhelmingly irritating not to have had it addressed.

It's the accent. I'd spot it anywhere.

I had a complaint, which I won't go into now, and I was told by Sharky to try Chrome because the bug was in vbulletin. I did and it works. But I agree, this site runs on automatic.
