I like you Tim, but you're not quite my type, what with the ***** and all. Maybe try when I'm pissed.

Anyway, I was thinking - how about offering an "official" t2w review of vendor's stuff by cynics (such as myself) - if the vendor agrees. It would be unambigulously hard to please, but at the same time fair... I'd do it for a modest fee (it would suit me for a few rather disparate reasons) and I suspect others would.

This should stop a lot of the harping on by critics (which is both understandable and misplaced at the same time) because t2w could effectively say "put up or shut up" to any vendors making claims... and do so publicly!

Whaddaya think? Goes without saying I have no problem this being circulated amongst staff/mods

Thanks for the suggestion - and it's a good one too, IMO. As it happens, it's one that was suggested a while back (by xxxx I think - or xxxx perhaps?) Anyway, the reason it hasn't (yet) been firmed up and put into practice is because of the problem of finding suitable reviewers. Most people have an axe to grind - or some sort of an agenda - even if it's just lulz - which, you won't be too surprised to hear, is why there might be a question mark or two next to your name!

Anyway gorgeous, it's a good idea and it's far from dead in the water. But we need to find a way to ring fence it so that it can't (easily) be abused by either the reviewers or the reviewees. As with anything in the bizarre world of online forums - that's not quite as straightforward as most peeps imagine.

By all means start a thread - I'm sure you'll get far more interest and replies than I would starting one of my straight laced 'formal' threads! Seriously, I'm not joking, please go ahead - I'd be very interested in the responses.
Cheers,
timsk

So then I was like "well, I'll start the thread!"

It seems to me that t2w needs to grasp the nettle... reviewing vendors from a critical standpoint - or pointing out that they refuse to be reviewed - won't realistically prevent any of the ********... but it WILL make it clear that t2w isn't legitimising any of this ****e. At the moment it can be inferred that by allowing dubious content, t2w is happy with it.

I speak to most of the staff and believe me they're not. They're decent people but they dunno what to do... they certainly can't just censor stuff, otherwise anything they don't censor is effectively endorsed!

If this proposal is endorsed, or some version of it, it's basically a challenge to vendors: convince your critics or know the site will let you speak, but never listen.

It's been done a few times, arabian, but it does rely on the co-operation of the vendors (and guess the sort of ones who would be unlikely to co-operate). I also guess that there's a risk that when the review was ok(ish) it would result in claims that the product has been "endorsed" by T2W which I wouldn't like to see in advertising copy.

Certainly perhaps your comment At the moment it can be inferred that by allowing dubious content, t2w is happy with it. is right, but can't it equally be inferred that by letting critical comment stand T2W is not happy? (I don't want to get into the "legals"/deletions debate since that's a separate matter - and I still hope the guys in the back room are working on that)

just a couple of thoughts

Sure but by introducing an official scheme whereby a review is available for any vendor who requests it (and there is an adverse inference drawn if they don't) then t2w's position is much clearer

agree

Related scheme is James Randi's $1m prize for paranormal claimants. I actually believe most vendors are not too different to dowsers, homoeopaths, or mediums....

I think that the vendor problem is integral to T2W - this is not a dig at the mods or site, just an observation.

It would take a radical restructuring to change things, a difficult period of transition, a lot of commitment and so on.

I think the T2W model is now just too dependent upon the vendor / noob thing.

T2W indeed attracts a lot of noobs... but you wanna know why?

It's cause of the search engine optimization and the sexy graphics.

So it shouldn't worry about that. The major point is not the influx of tards... it's the keeping on people who know what they're doing.... there are a lot of points there. I think that one idea is to pay certain contributors... I reckon I am worth a ZILLION pounds a year

Actually, what happened to Gammajamma? I'm gonna see if I can find out.

I'm probably worth my weight in scrap metal.
well, maybe I need to gain a few more pounds first.

well weren't those competitions for a 10th birthday?

cos the online trading space has changed ALOT from new technologies and regulations and stuff in 10 years... and so has e-commerce changed the same amount.

so maybe the owners of trade to win need to do one of those corporate teambuilding things and review their entire business strategy.

I mean if you search for older stuff (someone said about socratese and i followed my nose) there are better threads about trading then than there are now (live FX calls!.... my FX journal!.... from demo to hero in FX! etc).

and anyway after 10 years is it not just saturated?

you need to remember when you look at older stuff you're looking at the cream of the crop

mind you I'm hoping to produce a ****ing great thread in my serious thread... however it will not be applicable to 95% of traders here... meanwhile to yourself it will be obvious ****....

How exactly do you review a vendor?

Are all his posts on trade2win reviewed?

Or is his product reviewed, say vendor X charges £1000 for a days coaching, is the vendor expected to provide the same coaching free to the offical T2W reviewer?

Or is he expected to make live calls for review?

Or is his track record (his trading account) reviewed?
