OK, no problem, but if it was from a spam bot why just remove the ad spam part from the post and leave the rest? It was completely off topic, made no sense whatsoever, and was apparently only posted for the the spam it contained? Makes double work when you remove the entire post later anyway.

there are no post reports on file for this member and to be fair when spotted the first couple posts were kind of ok in the first instances other than the ads. those posts were either removed or edited and poster warned. the problem arose because without any report to keep him in mind they carried on posting (without the ads). i guess they were going to add in more sig spam later maybe.
you guys highlighted the issue of the off topic posting and they were removed. btw the ads were mortgage based on this one. it's usually that or insurance, or those language study tools these days. if it was a bot then they likely didn't even realise the sig had gone.

Its probably thought to be beneficial from a search engine optimisation perspective. You'll notice all of the forums who have at least a modicum of commercial awareness do the same
I've even see the admin at one particular forum justify this behaviour on exactly those grounds citing that what was good for the forum was good for the community !
