no, only purchases. Same theory as stamp duty on property transactions - the buyer pays, not the seller.

That is what I thought....

it is still not nice if one wants to trade UK shares.

true - hence the CFD market, although you'd want to make sure they were DMA CFDs otherwise you're back to the problems with bucket shops.

with CFD's making a mockery of the governments attempt to tax shares, and the tax itself being something of a stifle on the industry, why doesnt the government just dump it??
