India - the next superpower! maybe. Buffet is now interested in India, and I believe Soros was in India recently. But how does a retail trader tap into the indian market from UK? darn difficult!
and also the nifty is so volatile and some spread betting company in uk offer this, but not during the daytime! - so a bit risky!

emerging market stocks

I would recommend also have a look at the Russian and Kasakhsatan stocks, these two contries are very rich by oil and commodities, there are many such companies,
some of them already are listed on LSE, NYSE, Nasdaq and on German Stock Exchange Market, so you can find all you need information about them

Indian ETF

There is one out there now, it may also be pos to particpate in cos with GDR issues in the uk. Refco used to be the biggest issuer of Participatory notes, and despite the attention of SEBI, the P-Note biz is still very healthy and offers good liquidity - their Mumbai operation is now part of MF Global (man Financial) and it should be possible to access thru GNI, also part of the Man Group, via their GNI Touch platform.
Edlewiess capital, a Mumbai based broker/investment house have a US office and seem to rolling out some kind of retail platform - not sure what'll be on it tho

Hi guys,

You can also trade India through Pnotes offered by some specialist brokers in India like Kotak, Credo Capital. They are cheaper and also offer better service. They are also based in London so easy to communicate with and also FSA regulated. They also offer Pnotes on wider variety of stocks.

Tradefair.com is offering all fifty shares in NIFTY for trading. This is spreadbetting platform though.

Asian shares slipped on Wednesday (May 16, 2012), after Greece failed to form a government, setting the stage for a June election that could raise the risk of Athens abandoning the euro and deepening the euro zone's debt crisis.

European shares provisionally closed at their lowest level since the start of 2012 on Tuesday (May 15, 2012), led by a fresh slide in euro zone banks, after attempts to form a government in Greece collapsed.

US stocks edged higher on Tuesday as Greece's failure to form a coalition government tempered optimism about better-than-expected economic output in the euro zone.

From the Indian stock market it looks like that it will decrease more, the dollar value is increasing day to day & rupee is going weak. Every new day investor think that market will open with positive results. But its goes down.

Your analysis is very true but today Indian stock market has witnessed some positive trend around the world and helped it in staying green zone.
Rupee recovers a bit on G8 statement that of keeping Greece in Eurozone and Rupee sustained itself from further damage.
SBI rally seems to be continuing.
near about all sectors are in green today and continuing the momentum that it got on Friday .

The Indian government’s decision back in March to retroactively tax some foreign takeovers of Indian companies coupled with their anti-avoidance rules which implicitly target Mauritius through which around 40% of foreign capital stock is routed (effective 0% CGT) rather makes India about as welcoming to foreign investment right now as Argentina.

There’s still a boggling capacity for growth and providing the government doesn’t continue to play cavalierly with foreign investment this could be sufficient for outside interests to reconsider their current net outflows from the country.

Until such time as they get their act together, it’s all down to internal growth and capitalisation- which although significant – has its limits. In a global economy seeking even just relative stability (relative in that growth isn’t a prerequisite, just not losing too much…) India could quite easily capitalise, quite literally, on this need and simply play a straight book.

So being green is very relative. +0.67% (as I write) ain’t red hot.
