Is there anyone out there who can help me with this. I have had an igindex account for years but in the last few weeks I have tried to open an account with 3 different spread bet companies, capital spreads, tradefair spreads and financialspreads.com .

Each time the application has been rejected. I rang capital spreads and they said they wern't at liberty to tell me why, but if my circumstances changed to try again. I then filled out an application in my wifes name using the same details (with her permission of couse!) and it was accepted immediately.

I suspect it may be a credit rating problem but im not sure (for example ive never owned a credit card) and i really only have a joint mortgage with my wife as any form of debt and thats the way its been for years.

Ive heard it can be a nightmare sorting out your credit rating. Anyone with any thoughts or ideas i would be very grateful to hear from you

Thanks in advance.

It is almost certainly that they consider you a bad risk from a credit rating perspective.

You can get a copy of your credit rating for just £2 from this link:

http://www.experian.co.uk/wiseconsumer/

Be sure not to sign up to any of their "supposed" free offers. All you need is the one at £2 which will be sent to you and if there is anything on it that is incorrect then you will see it.

If you're not asking for credit I see no problem why you should not be able to open an account. In Sweden you will get information from the credit rating institute that somebody has asked for information about you. I don't know if the same procedure, to give you information applies to the UK.

Try with PaddyPower, they have very liberal credit scoring!

Purely that... no comment on anything trading/service wise with them.. do your own research

My general understanding is that they(sb) dont do a full credit check. They only check address and electoral role. If they were to take a full check, then if as you say, youve never had credit before that will scare them. They wont know where youve been. Seriously if you never have had credit it could be the problem. They would rather lend money to say someone who had a ccj 10 years ago then someone whos never had credit.
My father in law is loaded and never had any credit. In his old age he applied for a credit card to get some free wine. It was rejected. But yes get a credit check done in case there is a problem you dont know about. Im sure you have a good rep with your bank,so get a loan from them,it will show on your file then everyone will lend a homeowner money

IG will give a limited risk account if you show on the electoral register, irrespective of your credit status. You'd just never get moved on up to being a plus account; able to trade through your charts and get credit.
Capital Spreads dont offer credit ever to newbies so again if you show up you shouldn't have had a problem.
Anyhow just use the wife's account, sorted. :)
