I've been reading lots of threads on this board and articles learning about SB. It looks as if on the SB broker/platform there is no clear winner as users all have there favourites and gripes, just like most choices. I have narrowed it down to Capital Spreads or CMC but not for any major reasons as I said above they have their unhappy users as the posts on here show, they just seem to be fairly popular. I can always move to another SB provider if I need to.

All that said if it was "you" advising me as a cautious newbie SB trader which would you plump for.

Also I see that Digital Look use CMC for their SB platform. Is there any advantage of going through DL to CMC or just sign up directly with CMC?

Lastly just to show my flexibility (or dizzy head:rolleyes:) can anyone recommend a SB broker who allows me to trade in other currencies other than UK so I could begin live with very small monetary stakes after a week or two of demo trading?

Did I say lastly above:whistling, I read in a post somewhere that a user called Trader-dante (I think) had a online article or post that should be read about SB, but I can't track the post down does anyone know what I'm talking about:)

Edit: I just noticed that igindex allow trades of 0.10p.....as good as CS or CMC?

Great forum, thanks for all the help so far its been excellent!!

This is always a difficult question as you will tend to get individual's opinions (some useful, some bitter(!) etc) and have no real way of knowing who to believe.

However, if you chose to believe me..:)..

I'd go with IG, using the Trade Sense Programme, their platform/charting is much better and they seem to play the game with a straighter bat. If you are uncomfortable with the trade sizes once the programme runs out and want 50p/pt indices etc then I would opt for Capital Spreads.

Hope this helps.

Ben

Thanks Ben and the more I ponder and read the more I'm inclined to go for the IG Trade Sense program as you mentioned. From what I can see their trading platform looks good and clear. Thanks for the help and advice

You can do .50 / point on CS for indices? I didnt think this was the case.

Check out ODL. I think you can do 50p on indices if my memory serves me correctly.

Hi
Even I am a learner to SB & want lowest min bet size for longer term or permenant! ie. 0.50p/point,
Can you guys please guide? who are comperative good providers

They're all ****, ODL excepted, and IG if youre swinging.

If you want to trade small size use VDM or Oanda.

I have been trading with CS for 4 years. I am still trading with them. However, the best SB at the moment, if you are looking for a small deposit, low entry level (in other account currencies) and terrific spread, especially on the indices, is the white label of LCG, Dealingdesk.

The best is IG then CMC then CS
Why is IG the best? DD, 2 spread on the DOW, 1 spread on the FTSE. IG, 5 spread on the Dow, 2 spread on the FTSE. IG have got a very good platform, but it does not compensate for the wider spread, at least nor for my kind of trading. If you are a swing trader, I guess they are a good choice.

IG spread on the dow 4 and 6 out of hours , anyway there is no diffrence between 1 and 2 pip spread , i look at the whole picture here , i am talking about my opinion only i have account with IG CMC CS and others , and i look at other products not only indices , it is not always about the spread ...

1- wide range of products including options and 7000 shares
2- best execution : example : while u buy or sell if the price goes against u within a second , they will fill u at the new improved price ( sometimes during volatility it was 40 points improvemnt price in a Dow trade ! ).
3- best customer service .
4- guraunteed stops facility ( very important for shares trading ), Also u can trade shares from the bill to the bill .
5-If u have a cfd account with them u can have Direct Access to futures markets through their L2 dealer software . And if u have deep pockets they will give u direct access to Spot Fx with Tier 1 banks .
6- They make 100 Million $ net profit annually = they can handle big winnings and big size traders .
7- 24 hour trading on popular markets , this is important for me .

I was comparing them with CMC and CS but i dont know about DD , but DD still a white label for CS , i hope DD stay the same and dont change . This is my opinion i dont care about 1 point diffrent in the Ftse spread even while i am scalping , i care about the execution and the stability with their platform and other stuff and thats mean for me that IG has a better spread on the ftse .

CS isn't 3rd best. I'm pretty sure ODL and even that shoddy finspreads are better than CS. There's at least 4 other SB companies ahead of CS.

yeah maybe but i didnt try them ( ODL , Fin ) ...

Another thing here , IG has the lowest margin rquirments , example : Daily Ftse with a 10 points stop the margin is 10 and with 15 point stop margin is 15 ...
Cable with a 15 pip stop margin 20 ...
Dow with a 20 point stop margin 20 ...
BTW i am talking about Plus accounts not Limited risk accounts , at limited risk accounts u will pay extra spread cuz they will attach a G stop with every trade , but with a plus account u r free either u use normal stop ( no charge ) or G stop or no stop at all .

Yes, thanks a lot for the explanation. I trade the FTSE and the Dow, why should I pay pay double up the price on the FTSE and the Dow? I am also looking for platform reliability and execution speed. DD has got open 24 hours a day as well. Yes it is a white label of LCG, it does not mean they have the same spread, platform and execution model. They are financially strong as well. No SB can guarantee consitency over time, this is a problem with all Market Makers. I guess there is no simple answer on who is the best SB, it all depends on what kind of trader you are. I agree, there are quite a few parameters you have to look at, before deciding who is the best SB for you, and this might also change over time.

Ig. DO NOT TRADE WITH CAPITAL SPREADS

Hi I found an old post from you, warning against using capital spreads, I wish i had seen this earlier as I have my money with them and boy what a crock of sh**e they are,the site is down yet again this morning, and when it is working you can always get the trade on,but its a bit of a gamble about whether you can close it,they tell me you can always ring them to close it,but by the time you bugger about doing that, a winning trade on a fast moving market has more often than not turned into a loser, I would be most interested to know if anyone else are experiencing the same problems and can someone recommend a RELIABLE platform I usually trade the ftse and s&p
cheers Deb
