Stop loss: at the market or 'their' quote ??

Any of you more experienced guys out there have any advice to give a beginner regarding stop loss positioning - at the market quote or the SB firms quote? Cantor always ask this when I place a stop loss and I can't really figure out the pros and cons myself. Many thanks in advance for your help.....
