Two ticks is not bad, the actual market spread after about 530pm is ~5ticks+
0.5 piont spread if you trade direct access.
£650 margin per £10 with £5 commission per trip ( open/close )
This works out to 0.75 spread on Footsie.
If yo do 5 trades per day this will save you £12.50 per trade = £62.50 over five days = £300 per week or £15k per year bases on five trades per day.

0.5 tick spread? Are you kidding? Have you ever seen a FTSE ladder after 5pm?
