I'm just curious...
What is the biggest stake size you've ever placed on your bet? OR Do you know anyone who has placed a bigger stake size than yourself?

personally, around £2 per point, lol.

Although I have friends who trade at around £100 per point.

Thanks guys. It looks like everyone is betting at modest/safe/reasonable stake size unlike 34Kpp  mentioned in trader333's thread I'll be quite happy if sb firms let me make 1pt per day.

I scalped a £50pp on the FTSE a couple of times and £25 on the DOW. Didn't have any probs but then it's not what I normally do.

£100 pp is the highest I have done on Dax and cable. After losing 38 points once i dropped my size again.

Now trading £20pp until i perfect my manual trading system.

Surely, it is about balance size... if I had a balance of £1m, I'm not betting £1/pt. Similarly, if I had a balance of £1000, I'm not betting £10/pt.

i'm very surprised at how "small" the £/pt trades are with some of the members here considering most on here day trade the major indices? my point being you seem to make fast trades by opening bet then closing less than 10 mins later for quick 10-20 point profit/loss , i would have thought the £/pt trades would have been much higher? .

i myself trade between £1-£5 on the euro indices & dow but on a slightly longer term with a view of a 200-1000 point range.

on trading gold & S&P i average £50-£130/pt.

Its all relevant to your strategy, which in turn produces your win/loss ratio. My automated systems currently produce a higher win% against minimal losses and i started on £5pp , but after a few more weeks of testing I will increase this to maybe £20pp

My manual systems, though give a much higher gain, only £10pp. I would not hesitate £100pp once I have an exit that I am completely satisfied with.

Swing trading shares upto 5000 UK but only max 500 on the US markets. It would be great to ba able to develop an automated program that will increase size as account size increases.

Shadowninja,

Similarly, the balance size is irrelevant if the strategy is rubbish or untested. Trading a proportionately larger size of a larger pot will not enhance anything (apart from the broker’s comm’s).

I think this is similar to Citizen’s remarks.

Grant.

Also my highest. Trade was in profit by the time the fill came back, and this was a short under a major support in August, so I didn't have drawdown to contend with. Of course, I covered too damn soon per usual, or that would have been a trade to remember!

Indeed, although I guess I was assuming you're not randomly throwing money at the SB/broker and have a working strategy. :)
