Does anyone know if Betting Exchanges such as Betfair rig their games ( Poker etc. ) or does it just let the punters play against each other and pocket the commission for itself ?

Poker

I do remember reading that its the people who you are playing know each other and they are in constant contact with each other throughout the game.

So each one will drop out and when they realise who has the better hand to better the odds of beating you. They all take a share of the pot then if they win.

They say they are combating it, dont know if they can.

I would never play online poker because of this. So many ways to rip us off.

Hope I saved you a bit of money. No harm in having a bit of fun so dont get me wrong, but when I read up about this it put me off.

But presumably they wouldn't even notice you if you were playing for small stakes ??

Are there certain times of the day when these syndicates are absent ?

How are the odds actually calculated ? Based on cards or movement of money ?

Some of these questions may be naive but I would like to know the answers.

Anybody out there able to oblige ??

I was also talking about the Exchange Poker where you do not play the hands.

You just watch the hands being played out and back or lay any of the hands accordingly.

Dunno if this makes a difference.

Video poker

I understand what you mean regarding playing poker like a fruit machine style (Vidoe Poker). That is ok, thats just fun and gambling.

These syndicates will sit all day and night if they have to. There are computer programs that automate there play so they do not even have to be at the screen 247.

By all means play the Video Poker style that you dont play the hands, just the outcome as I have. The poker rooms do not appeal to me at all. I play fruit machines and video poker for fun and it is fun. I have lost in the long run. I like High stakes though and will always play the highest coin.

Just want you to be aware of this style of poker regarding syndicates. Just be carefull when playing if this is still what you want to do or stick to the video poker, you against the machine.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Ashwoka.

So does that mean the video type poker is not rigged ?

If so then, presumably any statistical analysis applied to a paper trade sample would have meaning and merit.

It's not rigged but neither is there any skill angle to aim at, the overround and the commission will drip you dry.

Yesterday I played to a system that I have developed.

I started with £ 500 and ended the day on £ 589, a return of 17.8% on the day.

High of the day was £ 618.

Apart from the fact that my system seemed to work ( yesterday anyway ) my other observation was that it seemed to work better at certain times of the day than others.

eg. early morning produced win after win after win but in the evening I struggled to break even.

Is there anything in this do you think or is it just the random run of the cards ?

I have tweaked my system based on further statistical analysis which I carried out today and my bank balance is now heading steadily north.

I believe the answer is to continuously carry out statisical observations in order to see what is currently working and what is not.

If I understand you correctly you are watching a table with numerous poker players playing Hold 'em and you can bet or lay any hand at any time ? You are not actually partcipating as one of the players at the table ?

As regards morning versus later from my experience at poker you can make more money as an actual player early in the morning as a lot of the American players especially have been playing all night ( tierdness ) and some sit at a table whilst under the influence of alcohol ( control and reasoning goes ) . Not sure how as a betting observer how you would take advantage of that consistently.

That's correct except that the players are not real people.

The whole thing is virtual and is computer generated.

I believe that I may have developed a consistent winning edge but in order to confirm this, I need to do a lot of testing.

And I mean a helluva lot.

Meanwhile I will play for small stakes until I am happy with the test results.
