Is there a limit to how high/low we can set stop losses? I've also noticed that including a stop loss reduces the margin requirement. Why is this?

Hey there

There's plenty on the forums about stop loss placement ......you can go fixed based on Atr of the instrument you are trading or look, for recent support or resistance levels ...

Bottom line is that you need to get out when you realise you are wrong ......so that's the stop loss area to use

And don't think you've failed because your stop gets hit. That's a good result of a successful strategy (bloody annoying though it is).

Always let the trade come to you in advance so you know when to trade your stop lost limit. It really depends on the derivative product you are using for minimum requirement.

agreed .........some traders use soft stops in their head to exit.......... with the Actual Stop loss registered with the broker as a parachute for spikes

end of the day Stop losses are part of the tools of the trade - never ever trade without one ..........

Hello,
Shouldn't the limit of Stop Loss be a part of a risk management policy you have decided to follow?
Excuse me if my idea isn't correct. I'm also here to learn more!

Risk management should be inbuilt into the strategy you use.
Reversing out of a bad trades, if using a trending strategy. initially Hair raising.....:)
Rolling your options to the next month, thus waiting to be 'right'. (A favourite)
Never committing more than 3% of your net portfolio/cash to any one trade. An absolute.
Simply put ...Aiming to make One ( profit) then only Risk One ( stop loss).
