Hi everyone

This is my first post on this board, I have found some great info here and my thanks to all of you who contribute to making this board the fountain of knowledge it is.

I have recently started researching automated trading systems, I was wondering if anyone knows of any spreading betting companies that allow you to make automated trades using software like Tradestation?

I have had a look around, I even spoke to complete moron at igindex regarding this but other than burping down the phone he had very little to offer

Thanks

Marx

think you have no chance as the sb companies decide whether to take your bet or not.

There must be a way...I use Igindex and have never had a trade rejected, so I am sure that the betting company deciding not to take your trade is rare.

Essentially all the trading software does is find stocks that confirm to your rules. If i could some how connect igindex's web interface to an automated trading software then bobs your uncle!

Automated spread betting!

Am i latching onto a pipe dream?

This is now possible with one company - go to Futuresbetting.com. A lot has been said about this company in this forum. They are Gibraltar-based and although they are an SB company, they actually offer you the real market, as it were. So you get the tax-free benefits whilst effectively trading direct-access.

You will see on their web site a reference to the API that they offer.

I have no personal experience - I only know what I can read about from their site.

Solved!

You'll have to try it with low bets, although I wouldn't try it intraday trading London shares, I don't think that it's worth it. Could be very good position trading, though.

The problem that I would find, I think, is that with automatic you may be entering just when their
spreads are too wide. I have a good look at them before I enter so, for me, there's no advantage to being automatic.

When the market opens, during the first hours, if the share gaps up, for instance, the buy price can go up with the market price and the sell price stay put around the previous day's closing price. If the share changes direction, which it often does after the tirst surge, you will then find yourself sold out at a loss, sometimes in minutes.

I like trading SB but they are bookies, not angels. Don't let them do your work for you.

I wrote a post about a personal experience with AUN last year. If anyone is interested put AUN into search and they will find it.

aamarx - i know this is a two year old post, but I'm curious as to whether you were able to setup a automated system? I see futuresbetting.com offer an automated solution coupled with ninja trader, but if you've got any recommendation's i'd love to hear them!

Wow this was such a long time ago!

No I didnt get far with that. My trading has evolved a lot since those days, I trade mainly using S/R now.

Out of interest, are there any updates to this? I don't think IG allow automated trading, but which SB companies do?

sounds dodgy! shame I can't use IG, they are a fairly big company now, surpassed the stock exchange in value

Yeah IG are one of the few Spreadbetters worth dealing with IMHO, certainly straightup and also very robust. When the LSE went down recently they continued dealing (through CHI-X etc). No MT4, you can do some programming in the Advanced Charts actually, never really looked into it but maybe that will spin off into automated trading.

The software I use is Amibroker, and they allow an interface with Interactive Brokers, which is my broker.

Now I need to program Amibroker to send instructions to IB. Amibroker strongly recommend using TWS demo to test before going live (sounds very sensible).

Will take me a week or two to suss this all out.
