I have just noticed I am apparently a 'senior member'. How does this occur, who decides and how? I only ask because I am far from experienced in this game and am constantly on the cadge for insights, intelligence and info from the more experienced hands, and enormously grateful for the assistance received since joining. But I'd hate for anyone unaware of my green shoots to be lulled into thinking I knew what I was talking about purely on the basis of a status possibly assigned in error. No disrespect intended whatsoever to whoever made that decision of course, just asking.

It's an automatic process, based on post count if memory serves.
Nothing to worry about

it gets worse as you publish more ..........."legendary" membership is something I still struggle with

Thanks for the update. If it's assigned by volume of posts rather than merit though, that's potentially going to be misleading in some cases with respect to quality until such time as new members get the feel of the place and find out who's who. Is that how it's always been? Don't know why I assumed it was merit based and assigned by a council of peers or something similar.

To be fair, there are far more members enjoying this status that genuinely appear to warrant it than those that do not. I suppose that's part of the initiation for us new boys on the block - finding that out.

Don't worry, you are in good company. There are plenty of senior and legendary members here that don't have a clue but sure blow a lot of hot air.

Either way it doesn't make a difference , because trading isn't about writing articles and trading books , its all about the pips , there is no correlation between contributing with a well written content and being profitable , most likely it is negatively correlated ...

Should be abandoned as class distintion. That is how legends, like myself, get a bad name around here. There are, actually, posters, much younger, who are becoming legends before they should be entitled to be.

Hi PB,
Yes, this is how it's always been. The idea of manually conferring an appropriate status based on the quality of posts made by each member is a great idea - but a tough one to implement. Aside from the obvious time implication, if this was part of my duties, many members would be extremely disappointed with the status I'd give them!

Now, assuming you read all the basic Stickies and FAQs linked in the e-mail you received when you first joined T2W, you will have read I'm New To T2W - Where Do I Start? Scroll down to 6. Is there a reputation system and how does it work?
;)

I'm sure I must have misinterpreted your comment.Surely the entire raison d'etre of this site is predicated on the opposite of what you have just said. Certainly I'd swap knowledgeable for articulate any day, but they do normally tend to be bedfellows.

. . . but they do normally tend to be bedfellows.
No, no, no, no!!! Grave error, easily made. Some (many) of the most insightful posts made by the site's best traders are by members who struggle to write their own name. I kid you not. And there are plenty of folk on here who will tell you that those who write reasonably well - like me - know sweet FA about trading. And they're right!

Tim, what is this---confession month? I just welcomed The Hare to the club on another thread, this morning. I'm Chairman, though, ok?

I wonder how much of a problem there would be if we got rid it completely - the senior/legendary etc I mean.

Thoughts?

If it's not genuinely indicative of trading experience, what's the point? Especially if, as cv has said, it is based purely on post count. We already have that data on every post a member makes.

timsk drew my attention to the reputation system and I can see the data on my profile, but it doesn't seem to feature anywhere else on the site. Perhaps that could be used in some meaningful way with the value of reputation displayed in the place of what appears to be a somewhat redundant member status? It would certainly carry more weight as would be a genuine reflection of peer rating. Presumably the current values each member has are already indicative and flipping to a system based on that would be an immediate improvement using the data already available. The only system change would be to change member status for reputation status. Hope you don't object to a new member voicing an opinion.
