Just been reading firewalker99's valedictory post on his now-closed journal thread.

It certainly reinforced something I learned a long time ago in academic circles and have come to realise is so true in trading: - the more you know, the more you realise how much you don't know. For me, it also applies to skill in the market - the better you become, the more you realise how far you have yet to travel. The market is a great humbler and should always be treated with respect. In a former Air Force existence I was told by an old hand to always respect the aircraft I was flying (ie be sensible and stick to tried & tested procedures and rules - no boy racing!) otherwise it would turn round and bite you. How true that was, and how true it is of the markets.

I'm particularly enjoying Trader_Dante's thread over on the First Steps forum - as much for his psychcological approach as his excellent technical lessons - there's a guy who does know what he's talking about.

Glad to hear that :)
And surprised too, that people are still reading bits and pieces of my journal.

Taking this to its logical extreme then the more you know you will actually know less and less so that eventually you will know everything about nothing.

Paul,

You've derived the definition of an "expert" - which is why you should always be wary of them!

Does this ring a bell with the experts who were running Northern Rock?

s'funny, because I think I'm well along the path to knowing nothing about everything!

From the Taoist book Hua Hu Ching, the supposed collection of Lao Tzu's teachings:

"Knowledge creates doubt, and doubt makes you ravenous for more knowledge."

Maybe CB should have posted this. :cheesy:

Either way, I think it hits the mark remarably close.
