Hello chaps (and ladies),

Am moving down from sunny Yorkshire to start my career with Futex in the next week or two, and so far have struggled to find accomodation through gumtree, moveflat.com etc...

If any of you fine people could help me out, either in terms of knowing someone with a room available or good websites other than those mentioned above, that would be grand.

I'm not too fussed about location, as long as I can get to Woking on public transport by 6am, so Clapham/Wandsworth area would be ideal.

Cheers all, SL

Cheers Pualo,

Budget's not huge to be honest, I shall be earning a mere pittance for my first spell at Futex.

Many, many congratulations S_L - that's fantastic news.
However, you now have the somewhat harder task of working out how to move westwards with the eventual aim of living in the best county in Britain which, obviously, is Devon.
Oh, and well done getting the Futex job - hope it goes well!
Tim.

How about Arabians? Sure he'd love another man around the house!

How about living a teeny bit further out. Otherwise you're gonna be paying London accomodation prices AND commuting money, for a non-london wage, which, believe me, you're gonna find tough.

So I have a few suggestions;

1) on that same train line but further down it (Surbiton / New Malden ish).
2) Another line, but maybe 1 or 2 stops from Clapham Junction (tons of scope here, but somewhere like Earlsfield / Streatham springs to mind).

If you can find an affordable place in town then great, but if not, just do your homework really carefully on the transport side of things. The train links out there aren't bad, and there are pockets of affordability in an otherwise pricey part of town.

Good luck

GJ

Thanks all, great advice. GJ you're definitely right about the wage/accomodation thing, fortunately I have a bit of money saved up from my 6 months' work since leaving Uni, hopefully that will be able to plug the holes. Will definitely look into Surbiton and other surrounding areas though. I have nothing better to do for the next fortnight...

don't worry, you won't go home empty handed (sic) when you leave Bangkok when you come to blow your first bonus :)

Oh dear......

If you have a bit of spare cash btw, I would try at all costs to avoid spunking it on accomodation if I were you. There will come a time when your wallet takes an unexpected hit and you're gonna need it for sure.

GJ

Thanks for the tip GJ, something I should definitely have thought of. Perhaps I should just suck it up and live in Woking for a year. Better to do that and build my trading account I guess. I'm sure I can convince some pals to come round on a Friday to play Eddie Ciderhands with 4 quid bottles of Scrumpy.

Not sure how cheap Woking is actually. The places I mentioned may be a better compromise for you. Depends on what you want really.
