The election & the markets

The anouncement has caused barely a ripple in any market so far as I can judge. So what does it mean?

1. Announcement trailed so far in advance that markets' judgements already discounted?
and
2. Labour victory expected, so present trajectory remains undisturbed?
or
3. Market sees no discountable difference between the two main contenders

1 & 2 look to be the present judgement because, even if planned Tory public spending increases are accepted as being lower than Labour's (market positive?), a change of government would be just that - change - and markets are usually unsettled by change to the point of at least a little increased volatility.

If finding the answer to these questions made me any money then i would probably be interested.

I tell you what . the best market to trade now is the politcal SBs.

does anyone know what the spreads were at the start of betting NOT , NOT at the annoucement .

I made quite a bit the last time round.

It means that nobody gives a s**t.

Including me. :D

As a new trader, assuming we did give a c**p about the election, what kind of effect would we expect the election to have on the markets? I'm sure each sector surely must have an "opinion" on the election results, or fear of the potential results and react accordingly?

Good question. I have no answer.

In the 'old days' there used to be some sense of what each political party might 'mean' for the economy etc. But 'these days'...doesn't really make much difference.

Of course, we could give LibDems a scare and elect them - I don't think they have enough MPs to form a cabinet. At least that would give the rest of us freedom to get on with things...

No, no, no.....

It's just the camera angle.

She's really quite, well, quite.....something.

Come on now, you must have had fantasies....

 Come on now man! She's a damn fine filly and I'll warrant a minxy little fox to boot. Leave the chewing to her.

Ah ... funny you should say that. I also made quite a bit last time round, but it was easier last time round, I think. So far I've only done one election-result SB, which I did about 2 weeks ago, and slightly to my surprise the spread on it hasn't moved at all since then. (Number of Conservative seats).

Hard to spot the filly-ness but an old nag yes.

Paper bag job, wouldn't vote for her if she stood in any election - and marriage ?

Out of the question.

Rather have Freddie Mercury as Queen
