Where is inflation today? You should be able to google this? Find out about different types of inflation measurement.

You need to define what inflation is? Once you know what it is and how it comes about you can look at undressing inflation to see what's underneath...

and what's the government doing to prevent inflation? you should then be in a position to look at this question and think about it...

Financial bodies have no clue about gold imho. They ramble on about the speculative aspects. Start with bartering and then what should be good qualities of a currency; portable, divisable, holds value, unique, scarce, acceptable to everyone etc etc and then once you know what it is you can look at the why.
