Hi,
just thought id write my few pennies worth since it is taking a toll on my head. I have been reading this forum and others for a few months now and have been learning and demo trading forex & stocks for about 10 months now learning everything that comes across.
My problem is this; i cant bloody get up in the morning, lack of motivation probablym most traders start early if they are day trading, usually about 7am to read the news, analyse charts, get updates, etc etc before the markets open at 8am london time. My problem is im a night person, i usually stay up working late until about 2am. I have flexible work hours thats why i prefer to work from home and at this point am going to give it a shot at day trading but need to be up at 7am todo this.
If done right then money will flow in, considering i gain on average 10 points per day at £10 per point thats £100 per day, which will be worth getting up at 6am :)
I know this sounds dilly but i cant stay up for 24 hours at a time and i know i need to get to bed early so that i cn get up early to trade because trading the forex early morning is more advantageous.
Any feedback welcomed.

Thanks
Si.

The keyword is demo trading. At least from my view, psychologically, you wont be enthusiastic about anything where there is nothing at stake.

Try playing with some little but real money. All your brain cells will become awake at once when you see your first loss!!!

To be successful as a trader you must be master of yourself, so i would suggest (and i am not trying to be disrespectful) you think about the question itself

Organise yourself

10 months of demo trading and learning, without rushing out to the market, suggests to me that you can get motivated.

However if you can't organise a simple thing like a schedule to ensure you sleep, are mentally alert and can find a suitable timeslot (bearing in mind forex is 24hrs) then all of that learning is totally wasted.

It's not just learning but also application that is needed.

thanks for replies,
i guess its just trying to get my a** up in the morning, could get a sack of coffee to sip when i get up at 7am. I am trading using small amounts of real money and hope to increase once my strategy strengthens. I have been demo trading for the last 6 months usuall from 11.30am - 6pm. since i have the time. but i guess its better to get up at 7am and trade the UK morning sessions too.

Thanks

You've got to figure out how to get to bed earlier or you won't get enough sleep. I get up at 0540
every morning but am in bed just after 2200. Once you get used to it it's great. You are by yourself for a few hours- peace and quiet!

You could just try trading the US markets and then you can lie in until just after lunchtime!!

Hello Si,

I've gotten more serious about my watching the markets seeing as I have a 2 week holiday coming up in which I'll be able to trade fulltime pretty much. To get more screentime in, I've changed my routine. Instead of going to bed at midnight, and getting up bleary-eyed to try jogging at 6:30, I moved to going to bed about 10-10:30, waking up at 5 to go jogging at 5:30. I then get ready for work so I have an hour in front of the PC from 7 till 8 when I have to catch the train.

Getting to bed earlier has meant I actually get more sleep - and I feel better for it. It does help that I have a lovely canal to run along so I see the ducks waking up, the mist off the water and the sunrise as I run :)

So as well as getting up early, I'd suggest you look at what you do in the evening too to make sure you can get to bed earlier too. Eat dinner earlier, don't watch TV in the evening, etc etc.

Hope that helps mate.

Wot! No ham and eggs? You'll have to get up earlier to fit that in.

watch repeat games of Blackburn rovers on your video early evening. that'll send you to sleep for sure

I think it's a bit trickier than all are suggesting. There seems some scientific evidence that some are 'night owls' and others are 'larks'. Forcing a night owl to get up early or a lark to stay up late just sets up stresses and internal conflicts. I can see that first hand in Mrs o'Clubs - she's an evening person, I'm a morning person - it doesn't matter what time she goes to bed she is still absolutely useless in the morning, ditto my brain turns off after about 9pm, however good a lie-in I've had.

I'd say Minx has the right idea. If you're an evening person just take advantage of it and trade the US markets, and USD/JPY if you want to do a currency pair. No point getting up early if you can't do it.

Thanks for the replies people, very much appreciated. I did get my self up about 9am today, better than 11am , since i do have about a month off work. Getting up at this time has allowed me to bag about 10pips.points. Was worth it i guess and lots of coffee.

Very true, ive mainly been a night person but can adjust for the right reasons which i am going to try from now on. If this fails i would trade the US markets and relax the rest of the day. But if its worth getting up at like 5-6am for 10-15 pips.points, then i better make sure i get my sorry self up and trade those early hours.

Thanks again for all those who have replied.
