Hi all,

I'm new to this site and would like to pick the brains of some of you wonderful people.

I have had an interview for a junior stockbroker role recently, at the interview i was told to do a fasttrack CISI certificate 1 and 2 course. On completing this i was told i would be guaranteed a role. The person who told me this was the interviewer at the recruitment consultancy. He mentioned he knew a chap who could teach me at a reduced price of around £670. Does this sound too good to be true? The PROMISE of a job is very luring. Has anyone heard of instances such as this in the past?

Also with some digging around i found out i could actually buy these course booklets, mock exams etc at a very much reduced rate. Is it possible to actually learn and successfully pass these courses when studying on your own? Or is it a must to attend these week courses? The thing is, i would struggle to afford the £700, and if it is possible to study on your own via distance learning i would much rather take this route.

I would very much appreciate any feedback. Thanks for reading!

There are a lot of companies offering the promise of a job after you pay for training. Some have turned out to be very dodgy. For example GTEX Global and City Financial Traders who were offering something like this seem to have disappeared leaving some unhappy customers.

Maybe that's not always the case but you should do as much due diligence as possible eg how long have they been incorporated, do they have a proper address (not just a virtual office), who is behind the company etc etc.

thanks for the response pboyles, unfortunately i don't know the name of the firm recruiting, my only correspondence is with the recruitment consultant. the more i think of it, the more i shy away from the idea of doing this 'fast-track course with guaranteed job'.

Is it an established recruitment company or is it perhaps a front for whoever is selling the training courses?

CISI is not a bollox course it's a serious thing unlike the other training rubbish that the others are talking about. If they let you do it with your own pick of training provider then you're probably good to go.

he wanted me to do the course with a company he personally knew, he told me he could get me a 30% reduction if i started asap!

The course may not be but the 'guaranteed job' probably will be.

Hi seq,
Have similar kind of experience.....I'm dwindling over the thought of whether to go ahead and do that course or not....parting with 900 quid of ur hard earned money makes u ask a lot of questions....please share ur experience

The last company that offered this type of deal just disappeared with customers money. Needless to say nobody got their guaranteed job and they had spent thousands for their training course.

You can pay for it yourself it will probably cost you a few hundred quid then apply for jobs.Be careful though these so called stockbroker jobs are at spank shops where your be calling high net worth people who have been called millions of times in the past by similar companies and try to get them to open an account. It's a basciacally a telesales job at a rubbish company you will learn nothing about trading.

At best, at worst there will be no job at all and you will have wasted your time and energy.

DON'T DO IT, there is NO jobs at all, all they are trying is filling pp in the classroom which is next to your interview room with a teacher "worked" for HSBC and GS 10 years ago - IT software install, I believe - and he is unemployment now.

If you want CISI, register in the website and get books and exams for ~ 300 pounds, the course in SH worth 0

They said to me, i was the strongest candidate the ever seen, but still wanted me to pay for trainning. A guy in the interview room told me thats the second time they called him in and the last time he came, there was students from their first years? applying for a 28k stockbroker job, i mean how did they get an interview?

luckyboi, talk to me, am going through the same sh1t, I got an interview from a phone call made by a guy called Terry Troakes, went to his office also, met him, typical recuritment type talk...

what happened with you?

These guys are making money from the training courses they get you enrol in. Now its 'stockbroking' previously it was mortgage brokerages or something similar.
