Data backup disaster - are you ok?

Take a look at this site: http://www.airdisaster.com/forums/ This was the leading site in its field (I was trying to find out why it's all gone quiet on the 777 aircrash at Heathrow the other week). Now, it is dead - just gone out of existence, years of expert comment just gone. Just imagine if the same happened to T2W.

My point is that this site evidently had no proper backup scheme - this is something that anyone who is IT dependent must guard against. I keep all my trading records / charts / what-have-you digitally and without a proper backup I would be well-upset if my Finance hard drive irretrievably failed.

Just thought I'd give a reminder to those who haven't yet got round to organising their backups.

PS. For UK readers, there is a free cover disk with Acronis 8 (old version but still excellent backup-making software) on one of the current PC mags - I forget which one.

How do you know that it was not removed on purpose ?

I don't, and you may well be right! It just seems a bit strange that a non-nerd site should disappear in this way. Cockup or conspiracy?

(You still need a decent backup strategy whatever the reason!)
