I'm graduating in July 2011 and - having wanted to be a trader since I was 14 - will be sending applications off to some prop firms in London. I was hoping anyone with experience could answer a few questions/offer opinions.

1) When is a good time to get an application in by? There are hardly any 'apply by xx/xx' on their websites. I'm pretty much set to fire off CVs/cover letters at the moment but I don't want to get in too early and get lost somewhere along the way to HR.

2) I know that many firms tend to specialise in certain instruments - am I being naive in wanting to find somewhere which will let me trade forex? Should I just be trying to find a position anywhere in the current economic climate? (I don't mind about not trading fx, it's just what i'm used to.)

3) As a follow-on from 2), are you aware of any firms which concentrate on forex?

4) Do you know of any firms which offer a basic salary throughout demo/training? This isn't a massive deal but obviously to a debt-ridden graduate having to sustain a London lifestyle for 3+ months its very appealing!

Answers greatly appreciated!

Final bump before I let this die. One serious response would be great.
