LSE shuts down for a few hours yesterday...like it's 1928

or someone forgot to put sixpence in the meter...problems with Dubai and Lloyds shares crash by 35% this morning... Pity the fools who bought into the mantra of "banking shares owned by the govt. are as safe as the BoE"...

Less 1.34*20p

yep and I know the full reasons why; given the new shares issued/ranking etc...just found it all a tad odd...hoping/fishing for a conspiracy theory thread...never mind...:devilish:

No, just LSE systems can't cope when there's exceptional volume, wasn't the first time, wont be the last....

Spoilsport...:( you don't reckon there's a (new) built in default/failsafe to prevent a crash/correction above 3%? :devilish:

must be fun when you need to get out of a massive losing position and the exchange is down LOL

Used to be worse when there was only the LSE, now there's all these other exchanges so imagine it's a bit easier, still not much fun though.

Well Proquote wasn't working properly after the LSE came back to life. I had a purchase order on SETS which I wanted to reduce in size and put the balance on at a slightly higher price. The machine wouldn't allow any input. Our account manager said he couldn't do anything about it. I informed the client just in case he neede to put in an official complaint. In the end it wasn't necessary but, as you say, suppose the price had fallen dramatically and the client had wanted to pull the order?

Don't believe the stock market "shut down" in 1928. In fact, they were open over weekends trying to catch up with orders, they were that busy, IIRC.

Guys please make correct statements as there is more than enough BS on the forums.............>>

1. LSE was down but there are many other ways to trade LSE stocks : bats, chi-x, turquoise exchanges.
2. It wasnt "down" due to exceptional volume, volume was more than expected (US holiday) but less than normal on the day in question.
