13.30 GMT action question

Hi Everybody,

First post - so I hope it works.

I'm fairly new to all this (I've been observing the markets for a year or so and taking part in small scale daytrading for a while, with reasonable results) and am baffled by the sporadic 13.30 GMT price action seen in many of the various index and commodity markets. Big leaps, sharp returns, high volatility and changes in direction but not occurring every day. The US markets don't open for another hour so what causes this activity?

Sorry if this has been asked about before, which I'm sure it has but could find nothing making a post search.

Economic news some times get released in the US around 8:30am new york time, and also sometimes at 10am new york time (3pm here) too.

And be careful re daylight saving times etc. Technically right now, until the clocks go forward, I think you mean 13:30 BST not GMT right?

Sounds like nitpicking until you try and sort out timings on numbers when the info you are supplied is in someone else's terms (US for instance). Also careful on times when one country switches to / from daylight saving at different times to another. UK / US for example think there's like a week when London is only 4 hours ahead of NY not the customary 5. Caught many people out.
