Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone knows what is the equivalent of the US term CTA which allows you to trade on behalf of clients. I know you need to get FSA certified but what would an individual follow to get the correct certs in the UK?

Wow i've just been wondering the same thing for the last two days, did you get any answers? I emailed a couple of places but no responses, and nothing on the FSA's website.

Sorry I didn't read properly. I thought you meant certified technical analyst.

Wouldn't that just be an FSA registered fund or hedge fund or whatever you wanna call it - doesn't seem theres much in a name, it's all about FSA registration - in the UK ?

Here's some more info:

Nice one, cheers for the links.

The NFA process in the US just looks so straightforward, if there were an equivalent version in the UK it would be handy. Occasionally people offer to let me manage their money, but i figured that without a bonafide structure the whole thing would just create bad blood. As grantx illustrated, the costs and regulatory process to set up a fund make it way out of the question.

I used to manage some money for a couple of freinds.. I had them set up CFD accounts and they gave me power of attorny ..they paid me directly based on performence.. it's not the ideal structure but it is workable and you dont need FSA approval.. I am myself looking to take on more clients and need a better long term solution.. I have been told that I would need a discretionary licence which is a bit harder to get than just an advisory licence!!.. If anyone out there knows somebody who would let me opereate under their excisting Advisory licence ( I am happy to share some revenue) then please contact me.
