Cramers methods to his madness....help me understand this

I just finished watching Jim Cramers speacial about his methods to his madness. He mad some very good points about when inside trading occurs and when a stock has a large amount of shorts etc. How do you know if insiders are buying stock or if a stock has a lot of shorts or how many people and buying and selling a stock I have seen peopel say things like this before but never got how people know this info.

You can get the short ratio and insider holdings from Yahoo finance. Not sure how up to date they are:

I would take it all with a grain of salt. If anybody can present any study showing that directors are any better at forecasting future stock price of their company than anybody else, then I would like to see it.
