I'm going to Jamaica at the end of October and I was thinking of whacking some of my holiday spends through the bureau de robbery to buy dollars (or possibly banging a short in) in case cable drops to nightmare levels again.

Any ideas?

Use Interactive Brokers to exchange currencies - Its just like trading... 1 or 2 pip spreads and your money is exchanged :) Rather than a 400 pip spread @ the post office (both sides! So effectively 800 lol )

If you plan on buying dollars, in case the GBP/USD falls... Then just short GBP/USD through a retail forex.

Just scared in case it drops and then comes back to hover around the 165-170 and I lose guineas for nothing lol.

Suppose I'll just keep an eye and take the chance eh.

Just deleted this and reposted it as I used an old account before.

Aaron,

Let's say you spend a grand on holiday:

£1000 @ 1.65 = $1650

£1000 @ 1.70 = $1700

It really isn't worth bothering about. Are you really going to sell cable at £0.06 a pip just to hedge your holiday spending money?

Book online through Travelex or get yourself a current account that doesn't charge for cash withdrawals.

I dont get charged for withdrawals. I'm just worried that cable will drop.

Not getting charged for withdrawals is a good start. That's probably save you a few % straightaway

I don't see what the problem is, yeah if cable drops to 1.60 it's annoying but it's only cost you $60 if you spend a grand. Obviously depends on how much you are going to spend.

I went to America when it was $1.40 and it didn't change my mentality - still like drinking and eating. Then again I was using my dollar account :)

Seriously, forget about it, just don't get raped when you do get the currency and never cash it back at a Bureau De Change.

I'm taking about 1500 all in all and $150 would pay for an excursion. are you forgetting that I'm an accountant? Acc'y = tight *******s.

This thread is ridiculous, its out of your control mate just forget about it.

On the subject of holiday money, does anyone know the cheapest way to get Turkish Lira?

Its my brother going. I wouldn't go there. There are probably about 190 countries I'd prefer to visit.
