Dissertations and trading!

Hey guys, not sure were to post thread but anyway ...

I am currently at what would be considered a bad university doing not the best degree and my chances of trading for a firm (as a career) are very slim. I am thinking to base my dissertation on an aspect of trading preferably basing it on one market maybe an index or currency so i can both learn the trade and complete a dissertation which may help with future employment.

Anyone based a dissertation on trading?

Do companies firms seek students to do research for them ?
