I'm a newb like you but I think liquidity in commodities will depend on how actual yields measure up to forecasted or projected yields. Also cocoa is a bit mad at the moment because a company called armajaro (who i was knocked back from) has been found guilty of illegally trying to corner the market.

I'd say you're better off starting on indices then when you have a sound knowledge of charts move into commodities... priciples should be the same. Only diff will be how the market behaves.

Volumes applies to stocks... contracts traded are how you measure activity in a commodity market.

If you're going to be trading it's better you get your head around all the terminology properly. Especially if you want to become a professional. You're going to be reading all sorts of reports and sh*t one day when your account is huge so why not learn it all now.
