Trading career, inspiration and advise ?

I am hoping to hear some inspirational type stories as to what you did in your career pre-trading and your evolution into a full time trader.

I am currently struggling in a big way for motivation in my day job as an analyst/developer and my main love, which is trading is basically capital requirements away from me quitting to take it on full-time - Ie, if i had the capital to sustain 12 months (for eg) while i continue to refine my skills, i would do it.

Day to day i come in to the office and follow the rat race i feel its slowly killin me inside and i simply cannot last much longer.

What did you do to follow your dream ? What steps did you take and what lengths did you go to in order to get to where you are ?
What is your story ? :)

I believe if you want something and your are focused, you will find a way to make it happen.

no one in their right mind quits their day j.o.b. to start trading; unless you go and trade for someone else that is !

so learn trading p/t in parallel with your f/t j.o.b.

aim to be a ok trader in about ten years - then, if you're any good, you can start dreaming of the financial independence

right now, it's boot camp, so get yer **** in gear and stop sloping around !!

This depends on the person, and for your information some do quit their day job and make it as very successful independent traders in no where near 10 years. If you're still struggling after 10 years, go and find something less stressful to do that doesn't cost you money everytime you log on to IG.
 
Yeh i find it hard to believe there is not one successful full-time day trader in the world !

Personally speaking, i traded as a local for a firm so never had to give up the day job, however there are numerous traders on here who've done it independently so i'll leave it for them to tell you about their route.

As it happens though i do have a friend who is consistently profitable EOD trading and he expects to quit his day job this year.

exactly - no one quits their day j.o.b TO become profitable - they ARE already profitable when they do quit

brings a whole new meaning to the old adage - winners never quit and quitters never win
 
Agreed, you have to have been profitable in demo and small stakes before going full time, however that isn't what you said in your first post.

demo? you have to be kidding right?

you would recommend quitting the f/t on the back of a demo account?

trading a demo is nonsense - just gets you familiar with the vendor platform

everyone knows that trading REAL money is a different ball game - the motivation is entirely different

all this is older than God's dog

We can only speak from personal experience. I had no problem treating demo like it was real cash, and i would advise anyone not to even trade with real cash, regardless of size, until they're consistently profitable paper trading. They should be consistent for 3 months on demo, and then at least another 3 months on small stakes before planning to make it a career choice. Yes the emotions on demo aren't as intense, but even when you're trading with real money, if you're following a system you've tested to be profitable and it also suits your personality, trading doesn't have to be stressful.

I trade in an office with 2 other traders. One of them quit his day job to become profitable and the other sold his company to focus entirely on trading. Both learned to become profitable, hence my earlier post.

Having said that both of them did not require an immediate income from trading having been reasonably successful in other fields.
