Hi everyone,

I am a second year student at the ICMA Centre Reading studying International Securities Investment and Banking. I am looking for unpaid work experience within any field of financial services.

I have also taken my SII Level 3 Certificate in Securities and Financial Derivates. I am competent and familiar with both Bloomberg and Reuter’s software.

Roles within stockbrokers, prop houses or investment banks would be ideal but any relevant experience would be great. I am keen and enthusiastic for anything available. I was wondering if anyone could help me.

I am in the process of cold calling everyone and everything with some success but as times are so hard it is impossible just to get a week unpaid experience somewhere. I have some experience coming up at a stockbroker's which is good but I need and want as much experience as I can get given the competitiveness of the industry.

I am looking for a career within trading or sales but any experience which is relevant for me would be greatly appreciated and invaluable.

Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.
Best Wishes

The first step is the hardest, if you have a place at a brokerage house this should set you in good stead. Research the internet and look at smaller city brokerages, keep calling them.

Constructive critiscm, forget top tier banks, they are looking for mainly numeric graduates from Oxbridge, Imperial, or LSE or in exceptional circumstances the Red Bricks.

If you are a top performer in your university, look at transferring, if not look into a masters.
