Hi,

I'm looking for someone who can help me out.

Mine is a familiar story - been dabbling for a while. Understand quite a bit of technical analysis and money management.

"Haven't got around to writing a proper trading plan."

Can't make any money, but "certain I CAN become profitable."

I think one of my biggest challenges is that I don't actually know what my trading style should be!!

Trying to get a trading style to fit my personality and the time I have available to trade has so far eluded me!

I'm not bothered what markets I trade in - but I've dabbled mainly in Indices and more recently a bit of forex.

It's all been spread betting up until now - and that's how I'd prefer to carry on for now. However, I've been using the spread betting firm's charts - and I know I need to get a proper data feed.

So, any takers to help me find my trading style, sort me with which markets suit me, which data feed to use, and show me some setups and money management techniques??

It's a big ask - and to be honest, I'm expecting a million answers telling me to just read the advice on these forums - but I feel that learning from someone who has been there, done it and bought the teeshirt is by far the best way forward for me.

And hopefully, in years to come, I'll be able to offer some help to someone else.....

Thanks in advance,

Rob

I may just be able to assist ...

Hi Rob,
Check out my Bio ... if you feel that I may be able to assist, then get back to me. We can then explore a way to communicate effectively.

Best regards,
Barrington.

Have you been to workshops and seminars as they can bee quite useful! Plus your also networking with people who know what there doing so you can use there best points and discard there bad points.

The most personal seminar I went to where I could ask the ?questions? I wanted to ask and get good useful reply's was from stirling chase. At least you will get good advice.

Just get your credit card out and pay.

The word 'mentor' has basically been hijacked by salesmen.

Yeah, I know you are looking for some good natured person who will help you but watch out for the conman, you're now on his list

Rob, set up a trading journal in the relevant forum here on T2W and post some trades, your basis for taking them, how you managed it and how you felt as the trade unfolded.

You will end up with a handful of mentors that will guide you through the process.

Hi Barrington,
Welcome to T2W.
I usually smell a rat when I read a post like yours from another new member who - lo and behold - is offering advice to someone who is looking for it. However, your profile is most impressive and led me to conclude that your offer of help is genuine. Either that, or you're a very slick con man!
;)

''Great traders and great comedians share a common skill that underpins their success: they're both experts at TIMING.''

Thats a great saying...

Isn't this just laziness? Not the right attitude imo.

I don't necessarily think it is laziness. Its a daunting thing starting out in any new business, trading included.

Some people will obviously try to search for the security and backing that a good mentor can offer, and there is nothing wrong with that. I think there is a misconception among newbie's though, having a good mentor wont bring success, trading is such a personal thing that you must find your own way. A mentor will probably speed up the process and make it easier, but in the end the results you get are a reflection of you, and you alone.

So you never learned from anyone? You just decided to start trading and made money immediately?

Well good for you :clap::clap::clap::clap:

For me, trading is a skill that can be learned. I know all the stuff about trading in a style that suits your personality - and if you read my original post, you'll see that one of the things I want assistance with is to actually FIND and understand my trading personality - cos I don't know what it IS yet!!

Dutch Clown - thanks for your post - most informative and helpful (y)

Everyone else - thanks for the input.

I'll help you out. The misconception is that TFs suit 'characters' or 'personalities', the reality is that there is a need for a TF and not a 'person', so as a small retailer just starting off (you), i can assure you, you need a thorough market grounding, get a mentor.

Biobob,

Thanks for the pm. How can i explain anything to you? I trade off contracts being exchanged, sometimes buyers and sellers come into the market faster than you would assume, because they (the buyers and sellers) are taking advantage of 'point blank numb head assumption', and so you can never say never.

Get a mentor.

Nice idea but it wouldn't work. You would have about 30 people commenting on your trade, 27 of which couldn't trade either ! How do you figure who the 3 people are you want to be listening to ??

You could end up with a Mentor that couldn't trade themselves ! That would be a touch farcical.

David 395. You are registered as a coach/mentor on T2W. Do you seriously need a coach to help you coach ??

Sorry Paul - I really don't understand what you're saying here!!??

Did my PM offend you in some way? Or did I ask stupid questions?

You've got to have an understanding of how many contracts traded are moving your TF, so you will need someone with experience to point this out to you. It takes time to pick up. Goodluck.
