On Friday, and in today's Sunday Papers, there were stories that the stock markets may be forced to close for a week or two.

Has this happened in the past? If so....

- Do they give prior warning of the closure, in order to allow traders to close their positions, or do they just announce it suddenly?

- If there's a closure of stock markets, will the futures markets be forced to close as well?

They didn't shut the dow futures when the NYSE was shut by Mr. Bin Laden and friends.

I would expect any announcement to be sudden.

It would be an utter disaster if they did!! Banning short-sales didn't fix things, pumping $£Billions into the banking system didn't fix things, printing money and lowering interest rates didn't fix things and closing the markets won't fix things either. I wish the people in charge of "fixing" things would listen to Jim Rogers!

To me, closing the markets would be like locking people who are trying to escape inside a burning building until they stop panicking....what happens the second you open the doors??
