Hi guys,

Does anyone happen to know if I will be able to access my spread betting account from South Korea? I am due to be visiting there soon and need to know whether I will be able to access it.

More generally, when people say that only UK residents can use spread-betting and things like CFDs, does that mean that only UK residents can set up the accounts but they can then access them from all over the world or does it mean that the sites can only be accessed from the UK?

So for example, spreadbetting is illegal in the US. But can I use my accounts set up from the UK as a UK resident to then go to the US and access my account from there?

Thanks guys

Chris

I would seriously doubt South Korea as a country would mandate that their ISPs should block UK IP addresses or web sites on any basis, but I don't know that for sure.

But to mitigate the risk of spread-betting being perceived as akin to devil-worshipping wherever in the world you may travel, you could set up a web proxy service for "anonymous" web browsing, test it out in advance from home, and thus be guaranteed that you will still have access to your favourite spread bets whilst you are abroad.

Or simply,

Give your Spreadbet company ring.

Traders tend to get the right information by getting it from the horses mouth, not asking on internet forums when we dont even know who you trade with.

Ask them yourself, then the problem is with the SB company if it doesn't work and you have far less chance of falling foul to misinformation.

I'd have a punt that whilst you in the USA, then johnny tourist needs to comply with local laws ? I suppose you could hop it to the British Embassy whilst in the US for tea bikkies and and a few scalps though ? :) Or get on with it very quietly.

Very good point though, I mean Global free markets V local state laws ?

Hmmm North Korea might be fun LOL as an experiement, would we be talking minutes or hours ?

i took some trades with my capitalspreads account while being in seoul. no problem to access the website. it was great fun to trade in an internetcafe surrounded by dozens of korean teenagers playing world of warcraft.

I could make a break for it into the de-militarised zone and see how many points I can scalp before getting shot in the head.

hmm yes that lady tourist was shot wasn't she ? Bloody shame, but it highlights ,even today how entire countries can be formed to act and think according to a few leaders at top of the pyramid.

Maybe in the next 50 years relationships will become better...

Anyway sounds like you'll be ok accessing spread accounts, according to tornhill, at least on technical ability to access.
