Years ago, I started swing/position trading with several thousand dollars.
This year, it is finally to the point that I can work out of my house and it has become my primary job.
I don't work for a company and I really haven't given myself a comany name... you know, like "AC26XP Private Investments"... or whatever.

But, what I am wondering is how do the others on this board (that are self-employed traders working out of a home office) classify themselves?

What do you put on a business card, for example?

Private Stock/Securities Trader...? Your own self-titled company name... ?

Thanks,
AC

In my experience, the most widely understood term for a trader, who is trading their own account, is "fund manager".
If someone then asks "who do you work for?" you can elaborate by telling them you trade your own fund.

What is the purpose of your business card?

You could keep it vague:

AC
CEO
AC26XP Ltd <----- or whatever the legal status of a business is in the US

The purpose of a business card is to share contact information with people I meet, whether it be on the golf course, at church, at the pub, at the ball game, at my local town council meetings, etc.

It is not to self-title myself with pomp and circumstance, ie., call myself the Chief Executive of anything, but to tangibly communicate my line of work.

What do you do?

Private Fund Manager...?

Hmmm... how about "Independent Stock and Futures Trader"...?

Thanks !

Why do you need to do it? I've never had to do it apart from at networking events for my other line of work. :)

What would happen if you said, "I don't have a business card." when you were given theirs?

Why do you need to do it?
Huh...? This is now a philosophical discussion?

Could we get back on subject, please?

Again... I am wondering how others on this board (that are self-employed traders working out of a home office) classify themselves?

Thanks !

It really depends on where you eventually want to go with trading...

I've seen
"XYZ LLC, Managing Director"
"XYZ Inc., CEO" or form of Chief Investment Off

and it also depends if you intend to get US Licensed "CTA" or "RIA" what form of business structure naming angles you choose.

MHO If you only intend to trade and take money to live on a LLC will do you just fine.
