Just read this on BBC News:

So bascially the govt is asking energy firms to justify price rises.
Amazing! They're always on about reducing emissions, and people being more aware of how much energy they are using. But as soon as we get to the point where market forces might compel them to do it, they step in to ensure that people will be able to continue using it as they always have.
And if they're so concerned about high energy prices, why did they intrdouce a windfall tax on oil companies? All that money they could spend on R&D and operational efficiencies....
