black bear ceased trading last night at 4:30 :)

reason = intraday trading not what I thought it would be ~ screen time ~ mood swings ~ usual reasons I would guess, thankfully not the usual Top one / Blown account

End result + 65 % intra day on Da account in 6 months, traded every day since 1st Jan 08 after paper trading for about a month.

To emotional to ever trade longer timeframe and remain objective once in a trade, this as always been less of a problem intra day if I can watch the market but is far from ideal and is a problem I thought I would work through in my usual ways.

This as not happened and infact the problem is getting worse and I have not started trading at any real size yet so I have decided to stop trading before I damage my health and wealth trying to prove I can, when it so obviously does not suit me in a number of very important areas.

Size........... 1-4 lots(Ftse) .....Just no 1 lot size is my real personal limit after that the emotions start getting in the way, and even spill over into my away from trading life. I really need to trade larger to really make a good living and I accept this will not be possible without a personality graft, checked with the NHS and private and no F..cker does it :)

Highlights and lowlights

Well

1. Running a loser right into a trend day in a higher timeframe entry attempt, I think thats what it was ??? on April Fools Day of all days, what a nana head, completely married my opinion for sure :-(

2. Jan - April consistant 1 % per session returns

3. Trading as per normal the next day after April Fools day blow up and getting it all back in one month intra day with no problem or even feeling the heat up my ass :)

4. Build up of ..........Emotion :(:-0:p:):D:cheesy:(::clap: in the last 6 weeks :-(

5. Results dropping off over the above period, more silly errors creeping in ~ concentration, lack of interest etc

6. Steady realisation I do not really want to trade Intra day for a living, I am incapable of trading the longer tf which was always my goal since the start of my journey so between a Rock and a hard place :-(

7. First ever 100 pt winner on the Ftse last week, which for my trading method is defo a run your winner trade, the cut back into my trade made my eyes water, td you can stick that BS up your ass mate, hurts to much :)

Enjoyed the journey, its been one of the best, learnt a hell of a lot about myself and thanks to those that helped and offered advice along the way ..........very much appreciated

Is trading for a living possible, I would have to say it is even with a 10 K account my results prove it is. Do not think anyone should under estimate the strain and stress of the activity on your body and mind if your personality does not take to the activity. So Beware :!:

I personally can think of easier and less stressful ways to making a living .....so hats off to those that can do it for a living and keep their emotions / lives etc in in check and just go about it like any other activity or job (y)

The End for black bear ..................just in time for summer :p:clap:

= Return account money = family Holiday :)

trade well all :clover:

Health wealth and be Happy all :clover: :)

I applaud you on your honesty and your farewell post.

You will be sadly missed and have contributed a great deal of great posts here at trade2win. Many I have paid attention to and certainly been of help, its good to be reminded of the simplest trading things this business has to offer. I once heard that trading is simple but certainly not easy, obviously for many reasons.

You leaving is a loss to say the least.

I wish you well for the future. Good luck in lifes journey and most of all...Have fun.

Take care Black bear.

So have you decided whether your new career will be with McDonalds or Burger King ? :)

Good Luck either way

good luck whatever you go on to do,

Maybe we will see you back as a swing/position trader with stops as wide as mine someday:eek: its not emotional as long as the money on losers doesnt hurt and you keep the pc/laptop switched off all day:whistling

Andy,

If it's not for you, it's not for you. Thank you for being so honest. There is no shame in trying something and realising you're not cut out for it. Happens with any other endeavor that people try.

If I read the above right we have a situation of a person who has a technical method of making money and a personality unable to exploit it. The latter can be fixed subject to motivation. The basic problem is BB you care too much about the money and the threat of loss is magnified out of proportion to what it is. That's your core problem and you could fix that IF you really wanted to.
Quite topical really.
The latest trend in medicine - virtual reality - Times Online

The key statement in there is “The gold-standard treatment for people with phobias (exagerated threat of monetary loss in this case) is exposure, which is, basically, facing your fears.".
Not suggesting you get wired up or similar ,but you can fix this by working on coping strategies IF you really wanted to. No one daytrading on a small position size with a winning method should really have a legitimate concern of monetary loss. It's just an exagerated sense of what that loss really is .In other words it's been magnified and it's out of touch with reality. It can be fixed.

LOL...get your 10K account from the bank in £1 coins and pile it at the side of your screen ...take your position size x your accepted risk and pile that at the other side of the screen..if the scale of difference between the two doesn't help..take an equivalent amount and call an escort agency to send round a little helper to preoccupy you whilst your trade is running ;) ..no one said coping strategies can't be fun.

Wow, everyone is giving up trading or moving to the "other place"...
Soon there'll just be newbies left.

Sorry to see you going black bear. I liked your sense of humour.

Chump,

Having read your post and the link maybe Andy is suffering from Post Traumatic Trading Disorder ?

Paul

Andy - If not day trading what about trading longer time-frame? Hour at weekend to verify market sentiment and trend, 1/4 hour per night to check positions and add / amend orders. Hands-off approach allows you to check accuracy of your system, forcing you away from screen, removing emotional interference with positions / orders. Day trading not only way to make money.

Andy

Not another one leaving.

Like you say, trading is not for everyone and it is certainly not the easy option people sometimes think. Some hit a lucky streak when they begin, only to realise it was simply that. It takes time, effort and, often, self-realisation.

I applaud your honesty and generosity in sharing your reasons for stopping and newbies would do well to read your post before they start out on this journey.

Good luck in what you decide to do next and particularly in working out the direction that you find more self-fulfilling. In particular enjoy that holiday away from the damn screen.

Charlton

Black Bear,

Sorry to read your intentions to stop trading.
I hope your future projects are enjoyable and personally fulfilling.

I can relate to your sentiments totally.

good luck. (y)
