Gordon Brown has said he will not be diverted from the "right long-term decisions" for the UK's economy even if they are "unpopular in the short term".

I wonder if the lowest income group is proud to bear a bigger share of the tax burden.

Hardly FAIR is it ?

Gordon's a black box trader. He doesn't read the tape.

What do you expect from a Stalinist trying to run a command economy?
Just like Josef, Gordon knows best, and the poorest peasants must suffer most for the sake of the country - yeah right.
Come back Blair, all is forgiven.

He's probably long-forgotten this ...........

Amazingly, less than a year ago !

1. "I will listen and I will learn. I will strive to meet people's aspirations. I want to lead a government humble enough to know its place - where I will always strive to be - and that is on people's side."

2. "In the weeks and months ahead, my task is to show I have the new ideas, the vision and the experience to earn the trust of the British people."

Gordon Brown
Launching campaign to lead Labour Party, May 11, 2007.

0007 - have you not yet learned how to arbitrage manifesto/'maiden speech'-speak and likely short-term reality? It's always worth fading....

Yes the only thing we didn't realise at the time is that all this was said whilst his fingers were crossed :)

Hmm... yes, i must do some homework there.

Bramble, you are obviously a generous man and in recognition of that I will pass on to you details of my Politico-Fidelity trading indicator. It's a leading indicator and works in all time frames, in all markets and is 100% accurate. It took me a number of years to develop and I can confirm that it has been backtested over many, many, years of data. Further, forward testing has completely vindicated the backtest results. Without doubt this has been my greatest achievement to date.

I have considered marketing this indicator for a not inconsiderable sum, especially to those not experienced in the ways of the markets but I've long felt that I can make more out of it by keeping it to myself. However, as I said, I will make this one exception - here it is: Watch the lips of any politician - if their mouth is open and the lips are moving then it is 100% certain they are about to tell a lie. So beautifully simple - it embodies the essence of Occam's Razor yet has all the elegance of a concise mathematical proof.

Please keep it to yourself - were this to be released in the public domain i fear it could upset the balance of the markets and destroy many political fortunes. Knowledge is power - let's you and me keep it that way. ;)

Blair said he would stand aside after one term and hand over to him.

Brown was naive enough to trust a politician at his word and ended up disappointed.

If Brown lacked the political savvy to out manoeuvre Blair for the Labour leadership then he's not fit to be PM.

He's a mug and Blair has let him buy in at the top.

Not that I approve of Mugabe but he observed that Brown is only an insignificant dot in the international political spectrum.
Outshone by the Pope this week in America - even he may see the truth of this insult

I don't see anything wrong with this at all. Appears fair to me that you other 99.99% should endeavour to keep me in the style I am accustomed to. ;)

However ,looking at this in gameplaying terms for a moment it's arguable that we are reaching the tipping point where the peasants might coming hunting for us with pitchforks if we keep pushing it so to misquote Marie Antoinette it might be in our interests to throw a 'bit more cake' their way for a little while until they forget what it is like to have their satellite TV threatened with disconnection ;)

chump, the UK hasn't had a damned good revolution for over 300 years. I think the threat of no satellite TV could be the catalyst.

Would it have been any worse had they not messed with Charles' head?

Very likely ,take away the sat tv and you take away take the soap and reality shows and before you know it that glazed look might leave their eyes and be replaced god forbid with a glimmer in the eye that means 'it's awake' and 'thinking'.

In the old days they were sent off to fight in the wars etc - and by the time they came back they were too shagged out to cause any trouble. But I'm a reasonable guy - they're better off occupied as above.

If the Ellioticians are correct then war follows economic decline like night follows day.

From the FT .

"only 1 per cent of Britons contacted could identify the limit for deposit protection (£35,000, or roughly $70,000). " ...AND yet in afurther survey carried out by Chump poll..
90 out of every 100 people surveyed could name the stars of the top running 3 soap shows ...and 70 out of those knew the bra size of their favourite soap star..

Let's be blunt those 99% deserve the govt they get. ;)

and mods why is this still in gen chat whilst the "Next US President" languishes forlornly in the foyer ...treat this as a reversal bar ;)
