Hi,

I am wondering how my profts (per contract per month) stack up with others. I have an automated system trading the YM (paper-trading for now). I am curious as to how this compares to other systems, both automated and manual.

I'll go first: I make an average of $1000 per month per contract (trading 2 contracts currently). I have no doubt that a skilled manual trader could wipe the floor with this though.

I'm batting an average £2,333 per day at the moment, (average daily profit after commisons and fee's, paper trading for the month).

I trade mostly the FTSE 100 Futures contract. No RSI, Stochastics, MACD or anything else except two exponential moving averages and my eyes. Manual day trader.

Peace.

For one contract...thats 447 ticks a day yea?
Impressive

No mate. I never said one contract.

Depending on the setup I put on between 4 - 10 contracts on each trade. With higher risk entry points I start off with one contract and pyramid my way into a position if the market is going my way.

Trying to improve my average rr ratio which stands at 2.31 - 1

Peace..

I divided the profit per month by the MAX. number of contracts I trade, which is 2, to arrive at the profit per contract per month. In your case Sal, the figure would then be £233 per contract per day x 22 trading days (average) = £5,126 per contract per month. 10 x my figure when converted to $. More power to you!

Though profit is important I think the reward risk ratio of your trades are even more critical. Sure, I could have an average £5,126 per contract per month. But if my overal reward risk is 0.5 - 1 and you have a reward risk of 3 - 1, then I would say your trading is far superior to mine.

You have a far better chance of staying in the game longer than me if you have a good r r ratio. Concentrate on minimising the chance of losses and profits will take care of themselves.

;)
