Us Stocks

Hi guys,

I'm looking to trade US Stocks, could anyone recommend a reputable broker for me to do this. I'm currently spreadbetting with finspreads, but it doesn't offer some US shares which I would like to trade or invest in.

Any suggestions/advice would be highly appreciated.

It depends on how much equity you can put in to start with. If you have $25K then www.interactivebrokers.co.uk is a good option in my view. This presumes that you wish to day-trade

Have you looked at IG index for spreadbetting. They offer a far wider range than Fins. That said, I moved to IB because they didn't offer a wide enough range for me, but they might be worth a look.

The $25k that Paul mentions is a US reg to prevent people who are undercapitalised from daytrading. So you're likely to run up against it whichever broker you use. The first thing is to establish whether what you will be doing will be classified as pattern day-trading: http://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/trading/marginRequirements/margin.php?p=d&ib_entity=llc

If not, then IB are a pretty good bet - low comms and a good platform. Otherwise you're probably restricted to spreadbetting. As Blades says, IG have one of the best ranges of individual stocks.

I think CMC probably have one of the best range of US stocks?
