Receiving Dollars in the UK

Has anyone found a better alternative to the highstreet banks for receiving and converting dollars to sterling?

The UK banks service seems to get slower as the costs get higher

I have looked at one or two FX companies but they seem to have a problem receiving dollars

I got bummed by my bank on foreign transfers too - until a respected member on T2W pointed me the right way - check out Voltrex - www.voltrex.com - they charge just a 20pip spread over the interbank rate, vs your bank which will probably charge at least 800 pips.
