Trading Game

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong area.

Please can anyone recommend a good trading game for someone who is numeric but not necessarily clear on all aspects of financial market terminology? I am looking for something that will give me a flavour of trading generally and more from the perspective of a short-term trader than someone who makes long term economic decisions.

I would quite like to get a feel for the mechanics of trading. I have been 'trading' on sports betting exchanges and would like to see whether my skills transfer over to trading in financial markets.

Hi,
I also would like to find trading place for trying my algorithmic strategies. I have much intrigue in intraday FX for going one side or the other. Founded on trending principles but with a sofisticated algorithmic analogy.

I also new to forum but very interested to discuss strategies with others.

Please do inform me if anything interesting is found.

What kind of strategies are you running?

I have trending on short term time period. Then combine that with dynamic risk recalculation I layer my position to offset potential loss or build profit.
This done combined on algorithm which optimize net exposure for my settings.
It is on computer based algorithm.

There are plenty of easier choices around.

By using exotic bets you will find that any 'stake' that you use goes to the firm. finis, gone, kaput. You will not see it again no matter what the outcome of the 'bet'. So even if you win your bet, you can quite easily be worse off than when you started.

You are also dealing with the dreaded time decay that is inherent in options trading.
If you have to ask about it or what it is? It is clear you are not ready for this type of advanced trading. And that is exactly what it is. Advanced trading.

I would suggest the best way to go is to open up a demo account with whichever trading vehicle you prefer; be that shares, futures, or forex. There are ample brokers on the web that will give you a demo trading account. Then you can test your theories to your hearts content.

I have had a look at those sites and yes i think they are probably a bit advanced for me.

Probably best to try spreadbetting then.

Any of the big ones will do, they all have demo accounts so it's a personal choice really.

CMC and IG index have been around a long time. Of the 2 I would prefer IG as they have more of a selection of different type trades.

Look at the newer companies as well, as they will have to try harder to get their slice of market share. World spreads have tight spreads but I have no knowledge of them. As per you will get pro's and cons from others here who have used them.

My advice FWIW to start, is trading indexes eg the S&P, Dow - they are much more stable than individual companies. If the CEO pops his clogs unexpectedly etc. it can make a big difference to the company's share price within minutes of the news gettig out.
As suggested above, use a spreadbet company and bet smallest until you are ready for the big time !!

Trading game

Thanks for all you advice and posts. Some of the recommendations were a bit on the advanced side for me at this point in time. I have set up a few demo accounts and am learning from them. I have recently clicked a banner of this site to a game called traderwars which I also thought was good.
