Hi,
Do Spread Betting companies limit or boot winners?

Let's say there is a select group that is very profitable in the long term, would a website boot them and stop them from getting a bet?

Thanks

Has never happened to me. I've been with Finspreads for over 4 years and recently with IG Index for 5 years consecutively. Both successful and no shenanigans.

These days its a myth that SB firms try to limit their customers' wins and winnings. They don't need to cheat, the house already has all the advantage it needs.

Having said that, deal only with a large and reputable firm, based in a tightly legislated jurisdiction - all types of business in all industries are prone to unexpected financial failure or fraud.

If you win consistently, with spread betting you are trading against them, not the market. Something to keep in mind

depends.........but believe me its a small group and funded by the majority of losers out there comfortably

my dad and grandad were bookies back in the 60's / 70's ........they had a limited few pros that took money off them regularly ....but they were also best mates with all of them and took money off other bookmakers based on those punters bets ....

everybody wins if you are in the know.....:smart:

No they dont. But its a comfortable idea for a consistent loser to have. Which conclusion do you think the bulk of these guys will come to?
Ive lost money, its because:-
i) Im crap at at trading.
ii) My speadbet robbed me.

Put yourself in their shoes. You have two clients at the ends of the spectrum. lenny loser and never miss a win tim.
Lenny loser just cannot make a profit. Whatever lennys doing hes constantly on the wrong side at every turn. Youre happy to take to take the other side of lennys bets and will even do him a favour if he rings the desk complaining about the slippage on his last stop.

Never miss a win tim on the other hand is way out there, a true outlier among your winning clients. Hes always advertising his intentions with his orders and never takes the micky with your pricing. So what are you going to do with tim?
A) Mess with his trades in the hope he gets pizzed off and moves to another broker.
B) Pass his trades directly to your liquidity provider.
C) Coatail his trades at ten times his size.

Have at look at this thread the Other side of the screen. It will give you some insight as to how they see us.

I've been spreadbetting for 11 years with IG, never had a problem with them. Just make sure you don't profit from pricing lag, and you keep trades on long enough for them to hedge against you and you'll be fine.

In your opinion, how long is long enough?

theres profiting from price lag (which tbh i dont see these days) or profiting from generous fills. If you are profitable only because of the generous fills youll get attention (and rightly so). Ive had personal experience of this.

whats this attention like though... thx for response guys.

In my case, I was using parent / contingent stop orders to enter and stop out. The account was new and I was being given slip free fills (B book). I was using nano size stops, 1.1 points in dax (inc spread so effectively a 0.1 point stop) then moving stops to BE asap. One morning I noticed I was getting consistent slippage so I got a buddy with an acc with the same firm to mirror one of my orders. I got slipped and he didnt, our orders were being treated differently.
I rang the desk and asked why my orders were being suddenly being slipped, whats changed? They said that nothing had changed :jester:. I then asked why was I being treated differently to my friend,,,, I was put through to some manager . The tone of the conversation changed as had the same conversation with the manager, "you wernt being very fair to us" which of course i wasnt :p "give us your friends name and well give him the same fills". They point blank wouldnt admit that they had changed the way I was being treated even though it beyond question that they had :cheesy:

Funny times :p

I'm also with the largest, and I have only positive things to say about them in recent years. Like others have said, as long as you're not trying to scalp in and out within seconds, all day long, or trying to profit from either price lags or pricing errors, you'll also find that they have no problem with you.

Believe me, I would be one of the first to complain here, and elsewhere, if that weren't the case, so rest assured, if you're happy with them, give them your business, and what's more, it would only be fair to let others know if you too find the same thing out for yourself.

GL :)
