What happened to open outcry trading?

Hi,

I was just wondering why the U.S still has open outcry yet over here its all electronic? I assume its something to do with the exchanges being able to make more money electronicaly, but if the U.S can make it work why did we stop?

What are the advatages of both?

On another note i really envy you guys that got to trade in the pits, I cant imagine there are many environments that compare to it.
