Forex - why call it cross trade?

"Cross may advance to 1.9912, 2.0000 in near term" - in relation to the GBP.NZD currency.

Why call it the cross?

Because neiether one is the domestic currency of the guy calling it a cross. It might be (though I doubt it) that you have to trade NZD/GBP through the USD or AUD or something.

because you will get cross when you lose money on the trade ;)

I thought cos it was traded mainly by cross dressers. Like the cable is best traded when laying a cable.
