Hi all

Am wondering how pivot points are calculated ... in particular the 30 min t/f ones that fxPro send me in their daily newsletter . My Platform has a daily pivot calculator but it give totally diff levels to fxPro

If anyone can help ...thanks

There are many different calculations of pivots from classic to woodies to camarilla to fib pivots, as well as different equations for calculating them. Add to this the fact that they can be calculated to different OHLC data across different t/f's particularly Daily, and it's no wonder there arises the probability of discrepancies between brokers and charting etc. It is impossible to answer your question without knowledge further info ..The gft platform and fxpro discrepancy you describe could be as simple as a closing time discrepancy between the 2 or it could be this and more as alluded to above. I suggest you ask them the question.

What BB has said is all correct. I pay little attention to standar pivots in forex as there are three major sessions to consider. The Euro,US,and asian all start at different times,so daily pivots could be calculated from any of the three.Hope you enjoy the answer they give, if you are new then id stick to a simple reason of technical analysis,so you have a chance of understanding it and watching it

Hi David,
Are you sure FxPro is sending you "Pivot Points" each morning?
as far as I know they used to send this "Trading Central" analysis each morning... where you could see some S/R's plotted in different colors, in 30 min tf charts as you say, and a BB channel with an MA and the RSI below the chart.....
Is that what you mean?, because if this is the case, they are not Pivot Points, but S/R zones created by Price...

Hi .... You are exactly right and for some reason I assumed they were pivots and adding them to my own charts to confirm my own analysis ... have been using them with great results, and the levels they quote are very good s/r points and looking back I should have seen this , I will also stick to this method of trading as it seems to be working (y)

I'm glad to help...
Yes, S/R trading is one of the good ways to go in my opinion
