Hello,

Interested in Forex traders opinions on risk:reward. Do you look for runners, quick profits or both? Do you like to take some profit and leave the rest to run? etc

Think I am throwing away profits looking for runners.

There really isn't an answer. You can lose money letting your winners run just as easily as cutting them short. Just figure out which suits your style best and do that. Sorry it's not much use, but it's the truth.

I know but just curious what other people do and why.

What's you style? If you're a scalper, you might be satisfied with 5-10 pips at a time.

If you play swing, then you might want 100+.

The trick is to get experience in selecting trades that will net you the kind of R:R you're looking for.

It's all relative.

I know all of that. I am asking what people do and why. Is your r:r fixed or do you vary it. etc

My risk doesn't vary, but the reward does. If you catch beginning of a trend, you can net 100 pips on high stakes with 1% entry... If you can hold.

This question simply doesn't have a straight answer... It all depends.

I mostly trade dax these days, but for me its about getting break even asap and letting things run. I dont think in terms of RR anymore, i concentrate mainly on what i can lose, If i can maintain that then at some point as below says, the market will compensate me.

As far as the 'knowing' things goes, well. The one thing i know about trading (and pretty much life in general) is that there is no knowing.

Personally I find it much easier to trade a method with a high win rate. Trend following type exits, (letting your profits run) can be more profitable, but it is psychologically harder, as generally speaking will have more % losers and gives back plenty of profits.
