So, what would be the basic salary for a 50yo starting trader at, for example, Optiver in the Netherlands?

No track record in finance obviously..

I don't think you'll get a salary until you've gone through the training and can make money. I don't know about Optiver but none of the companies I've heard of pay a salary. Even if you got on a program the chances of success are less than 10%. To be honest if you can do something else then just forget about trading, you're likely to be wasting your time and money.

In my opinion, it's fairly simple:

pass the tests, get the job and follow the two-month internal training, which I prefer to call getting familiar with the job.

Obviously, they will pay you during this educational stage. I mean, graduates who take the job go through the same.

But my largest point of concern is: how much would an experienced, 50 year old man with an academic degree make MORE than a graduate, who is likely to be paid €60.000,- bonus etc excluded.

How much more profit will you make for the company compared to a graduate? That should give you a clue.

Lmao, you'd get paid the same, but I don't rate your chances high.

50 years old and no experience? I would be surprised if they even considered you for a minute. I could be wrong though.

There is no shortage of graduates less than half your age and with a full working career ahead of them.

?

No experience in Trading I said. 30 years of experience in high-standard software development (e.g. programming navy submarines).

And yes, 'I' phoned them already and yes, 'I' will be applying.

But please, keep to the subject although I can understand answering is just gambling.

The "no exp." thing could come in handy, though. Some like that because it's a fresh slate with no trading baggage.

Give it a shot if you think you can do it. Just beware of the financial/emotional pitfalls.

You asked how much you'd be paid (more than a fresh grad), unanimously everyone has answered "nothing". That was pretty much the whole subject no? Any other questions we can help you with?
