When risk appetite has left the markets (at least for today) and the Dow is dropping like a stone, why is Gold going down as well? I thought this was supposed to be the safe haven?

Maybe people had to close out and cash in since equities tanked. Who knows?
Yea it's bad. Gold always looked like it was topping out though.

I think it's liquidation by hedge funds etc that have been have been long gold and short the dollar and are now reversing their positions and going long the dollar instead. Gold is very liquid so always gets hit hard on days like this when margin calls cause people to scramble for cash.
