Hi guys, I had an email off ig-index regarding a free seminar day, Has anyone attended any of these days or heard much about them? Are they any good or just a waste of time?

How could it possibly be a waste of your time?

I heard they gave out free sandwhiches at those days, so hey, free lunch.

yes went on one a few yrs ago they explain their platform and how to use it if your new and not sure then yes worth a trip it was free of charge but i m sure they ll cover their cost at your expense on the long road of learning

Yes i went to one for technical analysis for existing and active clients. He just explained support and resistence, where he would buy and sell. A lot of guys there wasted a bunch of time, by asking a bunch of stupid questions. One guy couldn't understand the concept of short selling, he thought you had to buy first. Another guy was like if i put 1k in an account, how can i make 1k a month? The guy told him, if you make 100 gbp back in a year you would have done well. Another guy wanted to just scalp, seemed like an idiot without a clue. It was complete waste of time to be honest. The sandwiches weren't great either, but there was a lot of them. You could go for the lulz.

Its a 600 mile round trip for me to attend and if I go ill have to take a day off work and pay traveling expenses and accommodation etc.
If theres people charging up to £7k for courses then why would company's give free seminar days, there must be a catch somewhere. I just don't fancy going all the way up to London to sit there for an hour or two and end up thinking it was a waste of a day so hence the thread to ask for general opinions.

Don't go. It's not worth a 600 mile round trip. Just read the making money thread on this forum. It's ten times better.

Thanks for that, I read a lot of the stuff off the forum last week its a load to take it so I been reading the same stuff over again to make sure I don't forget it, I've got a pile of questions but theres nothing I cant ask on the forums to get advice on if I need it.

I've been sceptical about the seminars people hold due to the fact that people say they can get you earning thousands of £££ every month etc If it was that simple then why are they teaching classes rather than making the money they say they make. I don't want to say their no good as i've never been but appreciate any comments regarding training etc. :)

Rich, it's a soft sell, smell the coffee dude!

IG are fine to trade with, but they're inviting you to get your business, pure and simple. You won't learn anything which will make you profitable...do you really think anyone who makes any money actually trading would teach at one of these things, or even go to one for that matter!?

Rich, people are telling you not to go and why, but you havnt actually told us what the topic of the seminar is ?

Sorry, the topics of this one are:

* The outlook of the economy
*Key markets to watch over the coming months
*Strategies for spread bettors in uncertain times
*How to deal with volatility

Yes, iv had the same invite, which is sent to all ig clients. I have been to one other ig seminar previously which was hosted by Dave Jones, their chief market analyst. There were good parts to the seminar, but as someone has previously stated, theres plenty of information on the web including this site, which will cover the same things and you wont pay an outlay of £600 for it. In fact the information will probably come available on their website ! However there is the opportunity to meet other spread betters and discuss a variety of things sb related. For a £600 outlay though I would say no.

Isn't there one nearer to you? They are always running courses across the country; you could ask them to consider hosting one closer to you, too. :)
